Best of Beauty 2007
So you know I love magazines, and one of the issues I look forward to every year is Allure's Best of Beauty edition in October. Naturally when it hit the shelves, I ran out for my very own copy, then almost immediately went back to the drugstore to try out some new products! Here are my reviews:
-Revlon Makeup Eraser Pen: LOVE LOVE LOVE this. So far, I've used it on faux pas with eyeliner, brow filler and lipliner/color. EXCELLENT. Doesn't leave any greasy spots, and you can re-apply in the immediate area as if the mistake never existed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
-L'Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lipcolour: Never have really tried any long-wearing lip color, but I like this one. It isn't drying and goes on nicely. The balm that comes with it adds shine and moisture, so lips feel natural, not painted. Tested it at a wedding a couple of weeks ago, and it lasted fairly well through food and beverage, though I did touch up the inner part of the lip once during the festivities.
-Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power-Clear Scrub: My recently revived acne problem saddens me, but I'm hoping Neutrogena can provide a solution. :( This scrub is part of a 3-part regimen that includes a face wash and a "hydrating treatment" (I guess that means it's not exactly a moisturizer). Have only been using for a few days, so don't have much to say in the way of effectiveness, but I do enjoy using it so far. Unlike other acne scrubs and treatments, this one does not smell or feel caustic, and its microbeads seem to provide gentle exfoliation rather than abrasive stripping. The scent is a lovely, relaxing cucumber, and it feels silky and seems to have a cooling effect when applied. I use this at night, and my skin is brighter and smoother in the morning.
-L'Oréal Lineur Intense Brush Tip Liquid Eyeliner: Finally, a great liquid liner with the old-school brush applicator that Chanel got rid of (boo). Lasted quite well on my greasy lids through game day at the bar. If you like applying liquid with a brush, this is your answer. And it's only 3.99!
-Paula Dorf 2+1 For Brows Brow Trio: I have this from before the wax was added to make the trio. The colors in the brunette scheme are perfect and long-lasting. I have never used anything else to fill in--and don't see any reason to give up my allegiance.
-Nars blus in Orgasm: C2 can attest that we've had this for a while now. I must say, this pigments lasts far longer than any other blush I own (Cargo, Paula Dorf, L'Oreal). The color applies smoothly and evenly, though faint enough to easily moderate its intensity on your own. I don't think I would bother trying another brand of blush.
-Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer SPF 20: I believe this is the 2nd year in a row, and I got this last year when it won top honors. I do like this; however now that I'm off the pill, the SPF is back to making me break out, so I had to give it up. It is more liquid than cream, so has a nice light texture, and the color match is unsurpassed.
-Cover Girl TruShine Lip Color in Valentine Shine: I did NOT get the Valentine Shine, but this opened my eyes to a great array of colors, which are supposed to "complement 97% of skin tones, guaranteed." I ended up with Mauve Shine (surprise, surprise) and now carry it in my cosmetics bag as an anytime color. Average lasting power for a lipstick, but having a color that looks great with anything is fantastic.
I also purchased Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamond Shine Base + Top Coat but haven't tried yet.
