Skinny on Definity

Have been using one of the items on my Allure Best of Beauty 2007 wishlist: Olay Definity Eye Illuminator Illuminating Eye Treatment. One word (sound): eh.

First, since it's not advertised as a moisturizer, I'm not surprised that this gel/cream hybrid actually does not moisturize. Now that we are on the verge of our long, cold journey into winter, I am starting to notice that this is not good enough. And you know as well as eye do (ha) how unpleasant it is to apply makeup to an improperly moisturized eye area. DISASTER!

Second, it is just weird to apply. Starts out feeling smooth, but as you glide it on, it occasionally starts to form small clumps. Easily wiped away, but still annoying. Also, I do understand that the light-reflective quality of the mica in it, that it is meant to improve the appearance of dark circles--which is why I got it. But sometimes I feel like it's overkill. My eye area ends up a little too twinkly for my taste, and my finger is all shimmery shiny! Ew.

Anyway, it's probably been about 3 weeks now, and supposedly the long-term effects are noticeable after 6 weeks, so I will stick it out. But I only apply this for day and I use a creamier eye preparation for overnight to ensure my eyes are well hydrated. If my eyes are brighter than ever in 6 weeks, I'll post again. But I'm not holding my breath.
