no more raccoon eyes

As mentioned in a previous post, I've been on a cosmetics buying binge. Aside from discovering the NYX glosses, my most coveted new purchases were 2 mascaras. I've always shied away from mascara, even though I think it's a wonderful product and makes a huge difference in one's appearance, b/c by the end of the day the mascara ends up giving me raccoon eyes. Not attractive. No offense, raccoons. ;P

Well, I decided to give mascara a second chance, b/c that's just the kind of gal I am. After some research, I decided to try out 2 drugstore brands:

1. Maybelline's Define-a-Lash Pulse Perfection. This is a battery-powered mascara (the first drugstore brand to do a pulsating mascara), is designed to mimic the zig-zag motion that you're supposed to use when applying mascara. I bought Very Black in the waterproof formula (I always buy waterproof mascara). I'm not sold on the wonders of the vibrating wand that seems to be the trend these days, b/c in this case I don't think it helps or hinders the application. I've applied the product both while vibrating and not, and there's no difference. However, I do love the mascara formula and the actual brush itself. It doesn't clump, it's not too thick or too thin, and for the most part* it doesn't give me raccoon eyes. And the bristles (short and rubbery) and size of the brush (long and skinny) are wonderful. They find even my shortest corner lashes.

2. Cover Girl's Lash Blast. I bought the waterproof in Very Black. This formula is bit thicker than the Maybelline, but still does not clump. The bristles are also rubbery and a touch longer than the Pulse Perfection, and the brush is fatter in the middle. Even with all these differences, I love this one just as much! I actually alternate every day between the two. The only minus here is that, due to the shape of the brush, it doesn't grip my short corner lashes as easily. Like the vibrating Maybelline, it doesn't really give me the raccoon eyes*.

* I think raccoon eyes are inevitable on hot, humid days, and on rainy (even just drizzly) days, regardless of the awesomeness of the formula.
